Sincronicidade | Márcia de Sousa

Sincronicidade

Synchronicity

Carl Jung defines synchronicity as a sequence of non-random events that are linked to
each other in relation to the meaning they carry. They are a combination of significant
coincidences that synchronistically come together for a broader and more conscious
understanding of human experience and action.
Synchronicity, in essence, distances itself from the concept of randomness, despite
being close in its formulation, it focuses on the notion of non-randomness, noting that a set of
events can coincide physically and symbolically in a meaningful way for those who experience
them, suggesting, subjectively, that these events contain a subliminal pattern. Under given
circumstances, these phenomena manifest themselves in timeless frameworks and acausal
energetic events, contradicting current scientific principles.
In this archetype lies the sensorial root where Cristina Perneta supports her work and,
consequently, her vision of the world. With an intimate bond with the environment that
surrounds her and the elements (water, fire, earth and air), she seeks synchronicity in the
nature that surrounds her and which she consciously chooses to represent, immortalizing her
vision and experience.
Anchoring the premise that exudes and strengthens the desire for the graphic and
visual record that immortalizes the moment, she compulsively marks the material supports,
casting a photographic and contemplative, but not causal, look at all things. It is an act almost
as necessary to life as breathing. With this masterful impulse, Cristina Perneta records the
elements and frameworks that are given to her to see, building a pattern, inadvertently
fragmented – like life itself –, but which intuitively articulates towards an understanding of the
material plenitude of the place
